Show Me the Meaning of Being Kenshin

I only like 2 Backstreet Boys songs, and this is one of them. From what little I had seen of Kenshin TV, this worked out really well.

I used the first Kenshin TV DVD (Ruroni Kenshin – Lengendary Swordsman), and a Japanese import LD of the movie which is a recap of the whole series. One of the things I love about the show is the way they play with depth of focus in the scene. Shots like that are always a joy to edit.

Side Note: Samurai X are the Kenshin OAVs, take place before the TV series, and have a very different art style.

Nautilus Cold

Per my preference for side characters, this fan music video is about Captain Nemo and Electra instead of Nadia and Jean.

It was a bit intimidating to try and do a Nadia video, given the wonderfully high precedent of the Hairston Nadia Trilogy of fan music videos. But it received applause, a handshake, and a “good job” from Hairston-sensei himself, so it was worth the effort.

Never Meant To Bishounen

This is music video shows off the bishounen of the Utena anime in a fun exercise in the power of editing.

One of the reasons I love to make fan music videos is the editing. Thanks to the human mind’s desire to tell a story, it’ll come up with the connection between two scenes that are placed right after each other, whether or not those scenes have anything to do with each other or not. This is lots of fun to play with. 🙂

Award: 2nd place at ShoujoCon 2000

Everybody Wants To Rule Ohtori

A Black Rose arc music video to the anime Utena. And one of the few mvs I have ever hated while I was creating it.

This is a long song to begin with, and it took me a lot longer to finish editing than I ever thought it would. There’s a lot of Black Rose sword fighting footage, and I wanted to keep the eye lines and directions correct so it looked like the opponents were actually fighting each other. I finally finished it, and think it turned out acceptable, despite the beating it took to get it into this form.

And if nothing else, it was likely Kanae’s first music video appearance for more than 5 seconds of screen time.

Premiered at Project A-Kon 2000 Music Video Showcase.

Mission Pokemon

My first spam video of Pokemon to the original TV Mission Impossible opening.

My favorite shot is the oh-so-serious expression on Pikachu’s face.
