Angel Banquet

The haunting quality of the opening theme of Joss Whedon’s TV series Angel was the perfect sound I wanted for my Vampire Princess Miyu anime music video.

The VPM OAV (original anime video, compared to a TV series) was one of the first pro-released anime I saw in college. It took me another 5 years to get around to making a music video to it, but here it is. I cut this one in about 3 hours.

There are 4 Vampire Princess Miyu OAVs, and this is from the 2nd one called “A Banquet of Marionettes”.

After Nanami Falls

A serious Nanami video from the Utena anime.

This wasn’t one of the original October Project songs I was considering, but it came together very nicely. And Nanami should be remembered for more than just her crazy antics.

Wild Bebop West

While not a jazz piece, this rap song by Will Smith fit well with scenes from the first Cowboy Bebop DVD.

I’m not fond of rap music, but this is my one exception. This anime music video has over 120 edits in 2 minutes and is the most intense editing I’ve ever done (so far). And is the only music video where I used any kind of special effect (the few inverted color shots). My preference is straight cuts, but it was appropriate for this mv.

The song goes on for about another minute and a half, but this was meant to be a short piece.

Thanks to SpoonPrez for the DVD source.

Bury My Lovely

An October Project song to the serious side of the Utena anime.

This anime music video is different in that each set of lyrics in between the chorus tells a different story, a different relationship, a different set of characters.

This is one of my favorite songs by this group. I have ideas for 2 more October Project/Utena videos, so who knows, maybe someday it will be a trilogy.

Some times I think of cutting a song I’ve already made a music video for to a new show. Not this one. The lyrics are too perfect for the Utena anime.

The Ohtori Promise

A juxtaposition of When in Rome’s lyrics and the multiple layers of subtext in the Utena anime.

Made especially for my boyfriend Tonbo to capture the true spirit of this TV show. While this video is nice and somewhat bland (“a bit boring” even), if you know the context of the scenes (i.e. you’ve seen ALL 39 episodes), and listen to the lyrics, I hope you cringe. 😉
