In Ohtori Academy

The Utena Movie, while having very little to do with plot the TV series, is extremely beautiful and I’ve liked the song In God’s Country for a long time.

One day it just clicked that this song would work well with a lot of those incredible scenes. So for me, this is what I watch instead of re-watching the movie, because I much prefer the story told in the Utena TV series.

Thanks to Patryn for the DVD source.

Never Meant To Bishounen

This is music video shows off the bishounen of the Utena anime in a fun exercise in the power of editing.

One of the reasons I love to make fan music videos is the editing. Thanks to the human mind’s desire to tell a story, it’ll come up with the connection between two scenes that are placed right after each other, whether or not those scenes have anything to do with each other or not. This is lots of fun to play with. 🙂

Award: 2nd place at ShoujoCon 2000

Everybody Wants To Rule Ohtori

A Black Rose arc music video to the anime Utena. And one of the few mvs I have ever hated while I was creating it.

This is a long song to begin with, and it took me a lot longer to finish editing than I ever thought it would. There’s a lot of Black Rose sword fighting footage, and I wanted to keep the eye lines and directions correct so it looked like the opponents were actually fighting each other. I finally finished it, and think it turned out acceptable, despite the beating it took to get it into this form.

And if nothing else, it was likely Kanae’s first music video appearance for more than 5 seconds of screen time.

Premiered at Project A-Kon 2000 Music Video Showcase.

After Nanami Falls

A serious Nanami video from the Utena anime.

This wasn’t one of the original October Project songs I was considering, but it came together very nicely. And Nanami should be remembered for more than just her crazy antics.

Bury My Lovely

An October Project song to the serious side of the Utena anime.

This anime music video is different in that each set of lyrics in between the chorus tells a different story, a different relationship, a different set of characters.

This is one of my favorite songs by this group. I have ideas for 2 more October Project/Utena videos, so who knows, maybe someday it will be a trilogy.

Some times I think of cutting a song I’ve already made a music video for to a new show. Not this one. The lyrics are too perfect for the Utena anime.
